Helping a Courageous Young Teen Battle Cancer

Karen Adams a young teen who has been battling cancer since last month June of 2016. Her story begins when she woke up with a swollen face and shortness of breath at her grandmother’s house. Karen was immediately taken to the ER where they examined her and found a mass sitting on her trachea.

The mass in her trachea was blocking Karen's airway and they had to inject a needle through her sternum without sedating her. The strong teen handled the procedure well. The doctors at Children’s of Dallas later diagnosed her with T-Cell Blastic Lymphoma and Karen had to undergo aggressive chemotherapy treatments the next day. Despite all of this, the doctors were able to shrink Karen’s tumor to basically nothing. Karen’s mother, Elisabeth, has been with her throughout the journey but also cares for 4 other children. The young teen has begun her second phase of treatment and a 2-and-a-half-year treatment plan lies ahead for Karen.
